The Rt Rev.Michael David Doe is the former Bishop of Swindon. He was born on Christmas Eve 1947 and educated at Durham University.[1] After a period of study at Ripon College Cuddesdon he was ordained in 1973.[2] His career began with a curacy in St Helier after which he was Youth Secretary of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland. He served as Rural Dean of Cowley, Oxfordshire from 1987-1989[3] and as a Canon Residentiary at Portsmouth Cathedral before his elevation to the Episcopate as Suffragan bishop of Swindon in 1994. From 2004 to 2011 he served as General Secretary of the USPG.[4] In the latter year he was appointed Preacher of Gray's Inn, one of the Inns of Court in London.[5] In 2002 he was awarded an Honorary Degree from the University of Bath.
